Gathering Evidence
You can capture screenshots and in-game footage using Xbox Game Bar.
It’s important to provide as much detailed information as possible in order for us to better understand your situation. If you are reporting a player in-game during a multiplayer match, you won’t be able to attach any screenshots or gameplay footage to the report. However, if you are submitting a report via the Halo Support site, then you will be able to add supplemental evidence to the report. Here are some methods for gathering evidence for each Halo game:
In Halo Infinite
If you did not get screenshots or video when the incident occurred, you may be able to gather evidence through Theater mode. This will not capture what occurred in text or verbal chat, but it can be helpful for other violations of the Xbox Community Standards.
- Go to the Community Menu
- Select Theater
- If you do not have a bookmarked match you want to watch, select My Match History
- Select the match where the incident occurred
- Select Watch film
- Confirm you want to load into the game level to watch the film
- Find the relevant moment/s
- Record your evidence
In Halo 5: Guardians
- From the Main Menu, go to Community.
- Select Theater.
- Select Recent Films.
- Select the match where the incident occurred.
- Find the relevant moment/s.
- Record your evidence.
In Halo: MCC
- From the Main Menu, go to Creative.
- Select Theater.
- Select the match where the incident occurred.
- Select Launch Clip.
- Find the relevant moment/s.
- Record your evidence.
Theater mode tips
- Make sure that enemy names/outlines are turned on
- Pick the most useful perspective, in Theater mode you can view what occurred during the match from both a first- and third-person camera. In Halo Infinite, you can see from the perspective of any player or have a free camera
- Be sure to submit footage from the first-person perspective of the person you are reporting
What else can you do?
In Halo Infinite, you can mute a player in-game.
For all games you can also mute or block players through Xbox.
If someone’s conduct extends to other Xbox games, please report them to Xbox Safety.
Do not violate the Xbox Community Standards
Players are expected to always follow Xbox Community Standards, this includes when reporting a player. If you violate the Xbox Community Standards you may experience consequences.
The following behavior is unacceptable:
- Reporting other players without cause as a form of harassment
- Threatening, using profanity, or insulting language when interacting with our Halo Safety agents
- Harassing Halo Studios team members in-person or online
- Submitting repeat tickets for the one incident
If you choose to violate the Xbox Standards when interacting with our agents or staff, you may be reported to Xbox Safety for additional enforcement action.
What happens to the player you reported?
Depending on the results of the investigation, a player who has been reported may be banned from the game for a period of time or other actions may occur. The duration of bans may increase depending on severity and frequency from that account.
What to expect
Each Report a Player ticket is reviewed and investigated based on all available information and evidence. Our Halo Safety Team verifies the claim, views evidence, and reviews past bans to make sure the penalty is appropriate.
You will receive a response when the investigation is complete. Once an incident has been investigated and your ticket has been closed, do not re-open or submit new tickets for an incident that has been investigated.
