Halo: The Master Chief Collection (MCC) supports the Steam Workshop, which enables players to find, download, and play mods created by other Halo players. Installing mods via the Steam Workshop allows for all new experiences in the Master Chief Collection, such as:
- Multiplayer and Firefight maps
- Weapons, equipment, and other gameplay tweaks
- Custom campaigns.
Halo Support is unable to provide troubleshooting or guidance with mods and mod development. If you want to discuss modding with other players, please go to the Halo: The Master Chief Collection's Modding sub-forum on Steam and join the community there.
Finding, Downloading, and Playing Mods
To get started:
- Launch Steam and open the Library tab.
- In the left column locate Halo: The Master Chief Collection and click it once to open the Steam page for MCC.
- Open the tab titled Workshop (or click this link).
- On the Workshop page you can browse through a wide variety of mods.
- Each mod page provides a description, screenshots, reviews and comments from other players.
- It’s important to review the mod's description for specific information about the mod. Make note of what game the mod is for, and whether it is for Campaign, Multiplayer, or Firefight. The mod's description usually has information from the mod creator regarding compatible game modes and other setup instructions. Read through the mod's description to ensure you understand how the mod works.
- To install the mod, click on the green Subscribe button.
- This will download the mod to your system. You can track the progress of the install at the bottom of the Steam client window, or by mousing over the Library tab and selecting Downloads.
- Once you’ve downloaded a mod, launch Halo: The Master Chief Collection by clicking the Library tab and double clicking Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
- Select “Play Halo MCC Anti-Cheat Disabled” and click the blue Play button.
- Note: mods will not work unless Easy Anti-Cheat is disabled.
- Follow the mod instructions from the Steam Workshop page on how to find and launch the mod.
When playing on a modded map you can normally customize the settings the same as an official map in the Missions menu before launching. Check the mod's description to confirm.
