In the Halo Infinite Season 2 update, the Graphics Quality mode settings were changed to Target Frame Rate in the Video Settings menu. Alongside this renaming of the option in the Season 2 update, Xbox Series S gained the ability to support 120Hz refresh rates while Xbox Series X gained the ability to support 30Hz refresh rates.
The Target Frame Rate settings can be adjusted for different results on your Xbox console.
- Lower Target Frame Rate increases graphics quality.
- Higher Target Frame Rate results in smoother and more fluid gameplay.
Xbox Series X|S consoles can be set to 120Hz with the proper equipment setup.
How to Change Your Target Frame Rate
Ensure console is setup properly for 120Hz
If 120Hz is not visible in Target Frame Rate menu, then it is not supported on the Xbox console being used. If it is present but grayed out, the console is capable but not set up correctly. To ensure the console is set up, you will need:
- TV or monitor that supports 120Hz refresh rate
- 60 Hz is supported by most displays, but not all displays support 120Hz. Check your device’s manual or user guide to determine what your display supports.
- Some display devices only support 120Hz on specific HDMI ports. Check your device’s manual or user guide for assistance identifying the proper HDMI port(s).
- HDMI cable that supports 120Hz
- HDMI cables must be version 2.1 or higher to support 120Hz.
- You may need to disable HDR on your display device before 120Hz can be turned on.
- Your Xbox console needs to be set to 120Hz output mode
The 4K TV Details menu in the Xbox console’s settings will show a detailed view of your display device’s capabilities.
To View 4K TV Details:
- Press the Xbox button.
- Use the Right Bumper to navigate and to open Profile and system (user icon).
- Highlight and open Settings.
- In General, select open TV & display options.
- Highlight and open 4J TV details
- When finished press the B button 3 times to exit the Xbox Settings menu.
