Campaign
Halo Infinite’s campaign is a new single-player story following the Master Chief as he unravels the mysteries found on Zeta Halo.
Halo Infinite Campaign can be purchased or accessed as part of some Xbox Game Pass memberships. View the Halo Infinite (Campaign) page on the Xbox Store to view which Game Passes it's available on.
Multiplayer
Play against and with other people in a wide variety of maps and modes through online matchmaking.
When you select Multiplayer, you will see several multiplayer playlists. Playlists are like music playlists set to shuffle and play one song. When you select a type of multiplayer playlist you can view the Game list and see what sort of games are available. Each game combines a game mode, which defines rules and victory conditions and a map.
When you press Play from the Multiplayer screen you will be randomly matchmade into one of the games listed.
If you want to play a specific game, play a Custom Game with friends. You cannot complete Challenges with Custom games and they do not contribute to Battle Pass progress.
Ranked and Social matchmaking playlists
Most games are social, providing casual games for players of all levels. Social games sometimes feature unusual or non-competitive game modes. Social playlists do not affect your rank.
Ranked playlists always mention rank in their title. Participating in Ranked playlists means that your results will be tracked over time over time. These playlists focus on more competitive and skill-testing experiences. The outcome of each game impacts a player’s rank.
Types of game modes
Game modes can be grouped into two categories, Arena and Big Team Battle (BTB). Arena battles have a team of four playing against another team of four players. BTB games feature large maps and up to 24 players playing 12vs12. Within each category of game there are various game modes. Some game modes are only available during events. For more information about these modes read our Guide to Halo Infinite’s multiplayer game mode rules.
Each multiplayer playlists will feature either Arena or Big Team Battle category games. This means you know before playing whether you will be in a 4vs4 or a 12vs12 style game. This part of gameplay will not be random.
Academy
Tutorial
The Tutorial puts the player through a story-driven combat exercise that teaches basic Halo Infinite skills.
Weapon Drills
Players can use any of the main weapons in Halo Infinite on a firing range. Each weapon has practice drills of increasing difficulty and players receive one, two or three stars based on performance.
Training Mode
Explore multiplayer scenarios and maps while fighting against bots, instead of other players. Training mode is highly customizable, allowing players to practice in a wide range of scenarios and difficulty levels. Players can swap out their weapon, grenade and equipment loadouts, change bot behavior and difficulty settings in real time.
Custom Games
Custom Games allows you to play your own game mode with a variety of possible adjustments to existing rules. You can start a Custom Game from the main menu or from inside a Multiplayer game list. If you select a specific game from a Multiplayer game list, you will view details of that game. You can then bookmark, save a copy or start a Custom Game from the Details menu. Custom games can be played on Xbox Live or locally.
If there is not anyone in fireteam and you have not have bots in your teams, you will load into a game that only contains you. How to play Halo Infinite multiplayer with friends has instructions for playing Custom Games with other people. You can select Play to launch a Custom Game immediately or modify the Custom Game’s settings.
